Tuning Up System Performance The four columns on the Services tab list the name of the service, whether the service is essential to the operation of Windows, the manufacturer of the service, and the current status (Running, Stopped, or Paused) of the service. As noted earlier, the Windows Task Manager provides a quick snapshot of system performance. A more robust system tool, the Performance console, allows you to monitor a much longer list of performance metrics than is available in Windows Task Manager.
